From: ALBERT BILLIOT III To: CommitteeForJustice@hotmail.com Subject: Solet verdict is case of small-town politics Date: January 23, 2000 The Calvin Solet Jr. verdict was completely unsupported by the evidence or lack thereof. This is a simple case of small-town politics and the district attorney's persistence to pin this officer's death on something other than the officer's own negligence. This was, however, a tragic loss, and I do sympathize with (the officer's) family. But giving this young man a life sentence doesn't lessen the loss. As far as his defense team, they must have had prior affiliation with the District Attorney's Office or be just completely incompetent or afraid of what this case would do to their careers had they pleaded his case thoroughly and had a non-guilty verdict resulted. Solet is undoubtedly no angel, but he is not a murderer - simply a young man who made a mistake and decided to flee the police. ALBERT BILLIOT III Houma
